In the interest of coalescing house lore a bit, that having to do with my character specifically, I am creating a post to organize when, who, and how house members have interacted with one of the oldest "living" figures in the house staff. Though he is a sword specialist who wields an ornate singing sword, Surakis is happy to play to the strengths a student displays with other armament including unarmed combat.

Razorworks Bladmentor Surakis has been teaching Ameterasu lords, ladies, their children, and their in house security for close to one hundred and fifty years. He is very formal, quiet and even tempered. His lessons are stern, exacting, and bruise inducing. His criticism is harsh, but constructive. He has a very philosophical view of combat and body conditioning. Easily thought of as unapproachable, most house members know him to be zealously loyal and to have a dry, soft spoken humor. Any particular relationship dynamics or plot ideas would be appreciated and we'll bounce the interactions around to fit our mold.

Around Kane's 21st birthday she would have approached Surakis about training, her reasons her own, but she would want to learn how to use the blade.

Blair may have gained a few pointers in knife work, if able to expand on her current knowledge, especially if he was up for helping her get quicker on her feet? Her personal muscle may have a fascination with his methods, which is something she's liable to encourage.

IKane would  have been taught using a heavily weighted model long sword until she had learned her forms. Any complaints that it made the sparring between teacher and student unfair would have been summarily ignored and more weights would have been added without comment. Once her forms were close to flawless (unless you want her to still be working on it) the sparring would have begun with real but dulled blades.

Blair would have not been given any armament in training at all, instead asked to  place a hand on Surakis back while keeping her feet inside a series of rings left on the floor on the sparring mat. Surakis would wait until she came very close to success before he would start tripping her and knocking her down in response to her attempts. If she improved to the point of success he would have moved to a dulled blade exercise with the same goal while she was blindfolded.

Both of these these students would be informed to arrive extremely early in the morning for a long series of planking exercises. They would be meditative, a quiet series of holding their own bodies in rigid forms on only their hands. Surakis does these daily and any students present are quietly taught how to assume the poses and then led through attempting them with little aid or motivation but their teachers easy and fluid routine.

Komachi, as heir presumptive, would probably have been given some self-defense lessons as a child and adolescent. (Because, y'know, serious kidnapping risk and no magic powers to defend herself.)

She did NOT enjoy it, and while she will grudgingly continue self-defense practice because it seems responsible, she is very grumpy about it - and more to the point, not very good. She's pretty much focused on running away or holding out against an opponent until one of her ACTUAL guards comes, because she is clumsy and distractible and hates this ughhhh.

If you think this would have been delegated to someone else, that works too; not sure how much you want to play out the House Lady being VERY GRUMPY about getting her robes sweaty and tripping over her own feet. o/ Komachi is not a blade specialist, though she does usually carry a holdout dagger in her robes, just in case.
